SACHIN PILOT REVIEWS WORK OF BSNL, DOP AND DIT IN CHENNAI

Shri Sachin Pilot, the Union Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology reviewed work of BSNL, Department of Posts, Department of IT, and NIC in Chennai today. Sh. Sachin Pilot said that 1000 post offices in the country have already been upgraded to international standards under Project Arrow of the Department of Posts and 383 more have been taken up in the current phase. Of these, 80 post offices are in Tamil Nadu which would be inaugurated shortly.

Speaking about the services offered by BSNL, the Minister disclosed that there are presently about 74 lakh mobile and 3G subscribers in Tamil Nadu, of which over 14 lakhs are in Chennai. He said that the Tamil Nadu Circle and Chennai Telecom District have already added over 23 lakh subscribers till December, 2010 and would continue their efforts under an ambitious expansion plan. To ensure that mobile services are delivered to the remotest locations as well as to improve the quality of services, over 2200 mobile base stations have been added in the Tamil Nadu since March 2010. 3G services have already been commercially launched in 52 areas across the State Shri Pilot added.

But the Hon'ble Minister carefully avoided to mention how many Post Offices are being closed in the name of economy thereby depriving the facilities/services enjoyed by public. 
In Postal side also Marxist comrades are in power. So There can be no surprise that the Postal wing is in such a sad state of affairs.
