Pilot monitoring five circles of BSNL for QoS

In a move to improve the quality of service (QoS) of state-owned telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL), Minister of State for Communications Sachin Pilot is personally monitoring services the company provides in five circles.
Sachin Pilot said on the sidelines of a telecom event here, "I am closely monitoring Rajasthan, Bihar, Maharashtra, Kerala and North-East circles for QoS."
On being asked about the timeline for completing QoS assessment of the five circles being reviewed by him, Pilot said to Telecom Yatra, "At present we are behind schedule in completing the assessment, but now I am reviewing the five circles every week for speeding up things so that we can quickly replicate the learnings in other circles also."
He further said that the focus of quality monitoring would be to keep a tab on call drops, traffic congestion, punctuality of customer service and broadband expansion and downtime of telecom towers.
The performance of these circles will be measured against the best performance of any service provider in these circles, said the Minister.
Apart from that, BSNL will expand its third generation (3G) services to 760 cities across the country by December, Sachin Pilot said at the event. Currently, the operator offers 3G services in 640 cities.
BSNL is also expecting to increase its 3G subscriber base by 2.5 million by March 2011, Gopal Das, BSNL chairman and managing director, said.
